Day 1 Highlights
Welcome Addresses
Prof. Dr. Evelyn Fogwe Chibaka
President of CaPROWN, opened the conference by expressing gratitude to all participants and acknowledging the organizing committee. She emphasized the aim of the network to support and empower female researchers in Cameroon and across Africa, promoting a space for dialogue and collaboration.

Keynote Address

The keynote focused on Promoting Feminist Academic Excellence in STEM, discussing barriers to women’s participation in STEM fields, including stereotypes, structural barriers, and recognition gaps. Practical strategies for promoting women in STEM were proposed, emphasizing the need for mentorship, scholarships, and institutional support.

Masters and PhD candidates showcased their research alongside esteemed professors, with presentations graded on clarity, flow, and engagement. This dynamic session provided valuable feedback and highlighted innovative research topics from both emerging scholars and seasoned experts, fostering an enriching environment for dialogue and collaboration.

Day 2 Highlights

Talk by Prof. Dr. Valerie Makoge
Prof. Dr. Makoge presented on the Personal Development Plan (PDP), emphasizing self-reflection and goal-setting. Participants were encouraged to develop SMART goals and action plans for personal and professional growth.
Concurrent Workshops
Following the keynote, participants engaged in three parallel workshops:
Workshop 1: Applying Mycological Research to Sustainable Agriculture
Discussed the role of fungi in sustainable farming and its links to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Resolutions included engaging policymakers and funding for sustainable projects.
Workshop 2: Mentoring Females in STEM
Focused on the importance of mentorship in STEM, with resolutions to create STEM clubs in schools and foster mentorship programs. A WhatsApp group was established for ongoing support.
Workshop 3: Science Communication and Gender Equity Advocacy
Addressed challenges faced by women in communication and provided strategies for effective engagement with policymakers. A creative theatre exercise demonstrated community collaboration in problem-solving.
